Seager’s own unique concoction of baseball ideas pushed him to the second-most hits in the NL

Seager’s own unique concoction of baseball ideas pushed him to the second-most hits in the NL (193) and the fourth-most total bases (321). Again, the totals were not just compared with NL rookies but all NL players. Seager was fifth in runs in the NL (105) and seventh in doubles (40), extra-base hits (71) and batting average.

The hope for the Dodgers is Authentic Austin Seferian-Jenkins Jersey that Seager’s first-year numbers are just a baseline from which to move forward. And while it sounds like an extremely high bar to set from the start, there is one person who knows that the youngster has the tools to make it happen.

“All three of my boys, it all clicked into them very early to work very hard,” Jeff Seager said. “We always talk about, ‘[It’s] the work when nobody is looking that counts, right?’ And they do. I don’t worry about them thinking, ‘I can’t get better. There’s nothing more I can do to improve. I’m tapped out.’

Celtics fans need only rewind to the 2011-12 Authentic Ben Ijalana Jersey season. Horford tore his left pectoral muscle and underwent surgery in mid-January. After three months of rehab, he initially declared himself out for the opening round of the postseason, before being given the OK by his operating doctor to return as early as Atlanta’s regular-season finale. Horford still waited an additional 10 days, until Game 4 of the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series against the Celtics, to make his postseason debut (this after the Hawks lost an overtime thriller to fall behind 2-1 in the series).

When Horford tore his right pectoral muscle in late December 2013, he sat out the rest of the 2013-14 season. Despite being 10 months removed from the injury at the start of Atlanta’s training camp in October 2014, he still elected to sit out the Hawks’ first two preseason games. He then eased himself back with an 11-minute stint in Atlanta’s third preseason tilt.

The encouraging news for Celtics fans: Horford went on to re-establish himself as an All-Star in that 2014-15 season, while appearing in 76 regular-season games. In fact, if you take away the two seasons in which he had pectoral injuries, Horford appeared in 93.7 percent of Atlanta’s games in the other seven seasons.

Horford traveled with the Celtics on a two-game road trip last week with the goal of playing but returned to Boston early. The Celtics were not scheduled to engage in full-throttle practice activity on either of their practice days this week.

“They knew I was kind of struggling a little bit in the beginning, and we kind of had some conversations to calm down, stay within yourself, all the different stuff,” Seager said about chats with various members of the coaching staff. “As it turned around a little bit, you talk to them more and more and more, and it just made the comfort level greater and greater, and it kind of translated into that.”

How Trent Williams’ suspension changes the NFL playoff picture for Washington

Washington’s left tackle Trent Williams is suspended for four games due to violating the NFL’s Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. The suspension stems from a missed drug test, according to the Washington Post.

“We met with Trent today to discuss this unfortunate news,” Washington said in Aaron Williams Authentic Womens Jersey a statement. “Per the terms of the Policy, Trent will be permitted to participate in team meetings and workout at the [team] facilities throughout this time. Our focus will now turn to the Minnesota Vikings after our bye this upcoming weekend. Any questions related to this matter should be directed to the NFL or NFLPA.”

Ty Nsekhe is behind Williams on the depth chart. For now, he’ll take over the left tackle job.

Washington isn’t the only team with offensive line questions. They’re not even the only playoff hopeful in the NFC with problems on the offensive line. Both Minnesota and Seattle have suffered lately through terrible offensive line play, with the Vikings losing their last two and the Seahawks with a tie and a loss.

Following Washington’s matchup against the Cardinals, Williams will be able to return to the field on Dec. 5.

Williams was suspended four games in 2011 after Adolphus Washington Authentic Womens Jersey testing positive for marijuana.

So what’s the problem? Maybe the problem is Darrell Bevell, the offensive coordinator. Field Gulls dives deeper into the struggles he’s had without the combination of Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson on the field at the same time. Maybe he should be the next offensive coordinator to get fired. Another issue might be Christine Michael forced into a full-time role, something that’s not a fit for his skill set.

The was good news this week for the Seahawks offense: Marshawn Lynch was back! The retired running back Marshawn visited the locker room. How’s he been? “Smooth.” Perhaps the moral support of having him in the locker room for a day will be enough.

Padres first baseman outfielder Wil Myers appeared his 15th game

On Sunday, Padres first baseman outfielder Wil Myers appeared his 15th game since coming off the disabled list on Sept. 4. After missing 98 with two separate stints on the disabled list, the second coming when he had surgery to remove a bone spur his left wrist, it took a while for Myers to find his swing. After getting three hits his first 18 at-bats with eight strikeouts, Myers is hitting.306 with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs his last 36 at-bats, including Sunday when he went 1-for-4 with a walk a over the Rockies. I feel good. The biggest thing is doing it day and day out. I feel I’ll have a good D’Qwell Jackson Authentic Womens Jersey game and then a bad game, Myers said. … I really like where I’m at right now as opposed to a week and a half ago. I feel I’m where I need to be. It’s having confidence knowing every single at-bat I’m going to do something. Myers had two hits, including a home run, Friday night and added two more hits Saturday night against the Rockies. He’s hitting.259 since coming off the disabled list. He’s been more selective at times, too.

He took three walks a game against the D-backs on Wednesday. He’s been more selective at times, too. He took three walks a game against the D-backs on Wednesday. The thing I like the best is putting together good at-bats, I’ve worked walks, I’ve had some five- or six-pitch at-bats, Myers said. Overall, Myers is hitting.272.465 line with eight home runs and 27 RBIs and 13 doubles. I think we’ve seen the same Wil we saw and May. He has the ability to be a game-changing player. Since he’s been back from the injury, he’s gained more confidence through the at-bats, said Padres hitting coach Mark Kotsay. I think he’s just feeling more comfortable overall. I think he’s done great job of settling.

Indeed, Myleene Klass has now jumped aboard the striptease fun for her 70-strong Insta army. The former Hear’Say singer uploaded the attention-seeking snap during her new year travels, protecting her modesty by clutching a hat over her bust. Josh McCown back as Browns starter after five weeks out

Quarterback Josh McCown will lead the Browns’ offense Sunday when Cleveland hosts the New York Jets, the team announced Friday.

McCown’s return to the starting lineup comes Eddie Lack Jersey five weeks after he suffered a broken left collarbone against the Baltimore Ravens in his only game so far this season.

He was medically cleared Wednesday and practiced fully for the first time since the injury. He had been doing limited work in practice the previous two weeks.

Quarterback Cody Kessler will not be available Sunday, as he remains in the concussion protocol. The other quarterbacks on the roster are rookies Kevin Hogan and Joe Callahan.

In other injury news, wide receiver Corey Coleman Elias Lindholm Jersey will miss his sixth straight game as he recovers from a broken hand. Cornerback Joe Haden is questionable versus the Jets with a groin injury.

Over the course of ESPN’s four-month inquiry, the inference from the evidence was clear: The vast majority of the key stakeholders — operators, bettors, broadcasters, advertisers and sports leagues — are positioning themselves for Adam Silver’s “inevitable” arrival of expanded legalized sports betting. Indeed, in 2013, the NCAA, NBA, NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball filed a crystal ball-worthy document in the New Jersey litigation and argued that they “have an essential interest in how their games are perceived and the degree to which their sporting events become betting events.”

Certain law enforcement officials are on board, too.

“The current U.S. approach to sports betting is not working,” wrote a five-person panel of former federal and state law enforcement officers in a 15-page report released by the American Gaming Association last month. “An open, transparent, regulated sports betting market boosts law enforcement oversight.”

Experts almost unanimously agree that legalized sports betting in the U.S. is “inevitable.” In Part 1 of Chalk’s series, we examine how we might get there and what the market could look like.

If sports betting is legalized in the U.S., recreational bettors will have far more options, like gambling hedge funds. But they will also have increased competition. And not only from humans.

The United Kingdom, home to one of the most mature legal sports betting markets in the world, took steps over the past decade to combat socially irresponsible gambling advertising. Betting and gaming companies in the U.K. have been permitted to advertise across all media since 2007, under strict guidelines monitored by the Advertising Standards Authority. The regulations require that advertisements for gambling must not “portray, condone or encourage behaviour that is socially irresponsible or could lead to financial, social or emotional harm.” Ads likely to appeal to anyone under 18 or that link gambling to “seduction, sexual success or enhanced attractiveness” also are prohibited.

NFC South teams hoping to see defensive improvements during training camp

The Carolina Panthers ran away with the NFC South a year ago. Even coming off an extremely successful season that culminated in a Super Bowl appearance, there are still areas of concern. Without Josh Norman, the secondary includes three rookie cornerbacks competing during training camp for playing time.

In Atlanta, the biggest question is on the other side of the ball — will Matt Ryan and the offense be able to perfect their communication during Falcons camp to take a step forward this season?

One of the main storylines Tom Jackson Authentic Womens Jersey for Bucs fans will be whether rookie cornerback Vernon Hargreaves will earn a starting role in Tampa Bay’s defense. Hargreaves got some work in the nickel as well as outside during OTAs and minicamp and will compete for playing time with experienced veterans Alterraun Verner and Johnthan Banks. The team also brought in veteran cornerback Brent Grimes, a four-time Pro Bowler, after he was waived by the Dolphins.

Quarterback Jameis Winston had a Trevor Siemian Authentic Womens Jersey strong rookie campaign, but the team wants to see him continue to develop in his second year. The good news is that Winston has a lot of offensive help. Doug Martin and Charles Sims are still around to keep things going on the ground. Austin Seferian-Jenkins is a solid receiving tight end, and Winston has two quality receivers to work with in Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson. The battle for the third spot on the receivers depth chart will be an important one for the Bucs — perhaps this could be a breakout season for Kenny Bell.

General manager John Elway didn’t succumb to Brock Osweiler’s contract demands — he signed with the Texans and appears to be on acrimonious terms with the organization — but he did wind up giving in to Von Miller. The ferocious outside linebacker signed a six-year, $114.5 million deal, including $70 million guaranteed, with the Broncos, ensuring that the team will be led by its defense once again.

The need to re-sign Miller was likely magnified by their losses of defensive lineman Malik Jackson and linebacker Danny Trevathan. Denver has two starting spots to fill at linebacker this training camp, and will likely try to find ways for its dominant pass-rush to cover up any warts.

Monitoring Jamaal Charles’ progress as he battles back from a torn ACL will probably be the dominant storyline this training camp for the Chiefs. Charles wrecked his ACL in mid-October, meaning he’s roughly nine months removed from the gruesome injury. Though the timeline for recovery for knee injuries gets shorter every year, the Chiefs will have to keep an eye on his workload.

The biggest personnel hole on the Chiefs is in the secondary, where they’ll aim to replace cornerback Sean Smith, who signed with the Raiders in free agency. Sophomore Marcus Peters emerged as the unequivocal No. 1 corner with his eight interceptions last season, but the Chiefs will have to find someone to complement him. The most probable candidates are Phillip Gaines and third-round pick KeiVarae Russell.

Eric Berry got stuck the franchise tag and no long-term deal. He will not report for the start of camp, so that’s a situation to keep an eye on. They’ll look to build off the momentum from their 2015 campaign, where they won their final 11 contests and routed the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs.

With the emergence of Derek Carr and Amari Cooper last year, the Raiders sought to shore up their defense this offseason. Oakland brought in Malcolm Smith, Bruce Irvin and Reggie Nelson to join a unit that surrendered the 11th-most points in the league last season. They’ll join star linebacker Khalil Mack, who recorded a whopping 15 sacks in his sophomore campaign.

Marvin Harrison Pro Football Hall of Fame speech: Colts legend says thanks

Marvin Harrison is one of the most enigmatic players in recent memory and has never been much of a talker, which is why his Hall of Fame speech was one of the most anticipated of the evening.

“You don’t have to be so quiet,” Harrison opened, and the crowd responded with applause

“I’ve broken a lot of records, I’ve held a lot of records, but records were made to be broken,” Harrison said. “But my current Hall of Famers sitting to my left and right — I’m not going to break the record to have the shortest speech in Hall of Fame history.”

“The @Colts have the best fans in the game.”

Marvin Harrison remembers his time in Indy.

For Tony Dungy, what he taught them was bigger than football.

Alongside Peyton Manning, Harrison was a primary part of Sean Lee Jersey the one of the most potent offenses of its time. He reeled in 95 receptions during the Colts’ Super Bowl season in 2006 and retired just two years later.

Ever since he walked away from the field, Harrison’s legacy has been complicated by a couple of gun-related incidents. Off-field matters aren’t supposed to influence Hall of Fame voters, though Harrison wasn’t elected until his third year of eligibility.

On the field, Harrison’s legacy remains. He still owns the single-season record for receptions, which Terrance Williams Jersey he set in 2002 with 143 catches. In 13 years with the Colts, Harrison caught 1,102 passes for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns. He was named to eight Pro Bowls and six All-Pro teams.

Evans, 32, was a fourth-round draft pick by New Orleans in 2006 and became a fixture in the Saints offensive line from day one. A six-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro selection, he started all 153 regular season games he played in for the Saints. One of the key pillars on their 2009 Super Bowl championship team, Evans is widely considered to be among the greatest players in franchise history.

However, age and injuries have taken a toll on Evans. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last season, limiting him to a career-low 11 games. Although he’s clearly in decline and has shown inconsistency in recent years, Evans still has probably one or two solid seasons left as a capable starter and certainly has a lot to give as a mentor for younger players in the locker room, including the Seahawks’ first-round pick this year, right guard Germain Ifedi.

The Rams are so pleased with Jared Goff’s progress they’re making him the third-string QB

Thursday’s fourth and final preseason game was another bad outing for the first overall pick in the draft, but don’t worry, says QB expert Jeff Fisher, he’s definitely better than he was when he got there.

People took note of Kaepernick remaining seated during the anthem before the 49ers faced the Packers in Week 3 of the preseason. Kaepernick said he is choosing to remain seated until things change.

Carroll added that he hadn’t talked to Lane about Jeremy Kerley Jersey the protest before the game, but he made sure to check on him before his postgame presser.

“He was very composed and poised about it,” Carroll said. “We support our guys.”

Sanchez didn’t play at all in the Broncos’ final two preseason games. In the crucial third game, Trevor Siemian handled the first half and rookie Paxton Lynch was in there for the second half. Lynch played all of the fourth game with Siemian prepping to start Week 1 of the regular season.

Sanchez, a seven-year veteran, went 20 of 30 for 219 yards and one touchdown as well as three turnovers (two fumbles, one interception) in game action this summer. He was sacked three times in the Broncos’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 20, which was his last appearance with the team.

This is the latest setback for Sanchez, who’s never been able to protect the football during his NFL career. He’s thrown 86 touchdowns and 84 interceptions in 75 games.

The New York Jets drafted Sanchez, 29, with the No. 5 overall pick Jeremy Ross Jersey in the 2009 NFL Draft and immediately named him their starting quarterback. While his regular season numbers were abysmal — 12 touchdowns and 20 picks — he took the Jets to the AFC Championship that season. New York also qualified for the AFC Championship with Sanchez under center the following year.

But ever since the 2010 campaign, it’s been all downhill for the former USC standout. He went 14-17 in his final two seasons as the Jets’ starting quarterback before missing all of 2013 with a shoulder injury. The Eagles scooped up Sanchez on a one-year deal in 2014 before re-signing him to a two-year contract. He posted an 86.6 QB rating in Philadelphia, throwing for 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 13 games.

The Broncos have named Siemian the starting quarterback for now, though his inexperience may force a change down the line. Neither Siemian nor Lynch has lit it up this preseason, but both possess a higher ceiling than Sanchez. Not many teams have use for a QB who can’t stop turning the ball over.

“Philadelphia is a passionate football town and will serve as a tremendous backdrop for the Draft and provide a great atmosphere for our fans and incoming players,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a release. “[Eagles owner] Jeffrey Lurie has been a strong advocate and supporter of the draft on behalf of the City of Philadelphia throughout the entire selection process.”

Hamhuis returned late the second wearing a cage mask

Moments later, Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis was rushed off the ice pouring blood after being hit by inadvertent high stick by Edmonton’s Arcobello. Hamhuis returned late the second wearing a cage mask. Vancouver had a couple of opportunities to extend its lead the first half of the third period, but Scrivens received some help with Taylor Hall and Ference both clearing pucks moments before a Canucks player could put it open net.

There was no Christine Michael Jersey scoring a back-and-forth first period that saw Scrivens face 12 shots and make 10 stops. The biggest save the opening period went to Scrivens, stopping Henrik Sedin tight with a quick kick save with two minutes remaining. NOTES: Vancouver and Edmonton met five times the regular last year, with the Canucks winning three. … The Canucks hadn’t played since defeating the Oilers 6 a shootout last Saturday. … Nugent-Hopkins returned to the lineup after missing the last two .

Menu Robin Thicke laid it on thick at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards on night, making not one but two public proclamations professing his his his estranged wife Patton. When the Blurred Lines singer, 37 accepted the award for Best R&B Single he ended his acceptance speech by saying, Most importantly, I’d like to thank my wife for her and support and for putting up with me all these years. Us Weekly reported that when Thicke returned Cliff Avril Jersey to the stage to perform his new single, Get Her Back he swapped his usually flashy style for a more reserved, heartfelt rendition. The was penned for his wife. Alright, y’all, help me get her back, Thicke told the crowd. With his eyes glistening, Thicke began his which includes lyrics like, I gotta treat her right and I’m gonna go get her, go get her, go get her, go get her back. He then asked the crowd to put their hands together, as he fell onto his knees and crooned, I gotta get her, I gotta get a girl tonight.

Colin Kaepernick says he has gotten death threats, discusses Terence Crutcher

Colin Kaepernick thought about all the possible backlash that would come along with his national-anthem protest including, sadly, death threats.

Kaepernick said he has gotten some death threats from a “couple different avenues” since he started sitting, and then kneeling, for the national anthem. Kaepernick, a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, is protesting racial injustice and police brutality.

He said he hadn’t alerted team officials to the threats, the San Francisco Chronicle and CSN Bay Area reported.

“No, to me, if something like that were to happen, you’ve proved my point,” said Kaepernick, who spent 15 minutes at his locker Tuesday with reporters. “And it will be loud and clear for everyone why it happened. And that would move this movement forward at a greater speed than what it is even now.”

OVERREACTION: Kirk Cousins and the Redskins (0-2) were a fluke in 2015. Cousins threw a critical end-zone interception that led to Dallas scoring the winning TD.

REALISTIC REACTION: Washington was 4-6 last season before Cousins led them to six straight wins and a division title. Way too early to count them out in the NFC East.

OVERREACTION: Steve Spagnuolo’s defense will lead the Giants (2-0) to the playoffs. After allowing Drew Brees to throw for 511 yards and an NFL-tying seven touchdowns last year, New York limited the Saints to 288 yards in a 16-13 win.

REALISTIC REACTION: The Giants have improved on D, but this team’s success falls on Eli Manning and Ben McAdoo’s high-powered offense.

But that’s an issue for down the line. For this season there isn’t likely to be a quarterback controversy. This is still Jones’ team, and Romo is still his quarterback.

“They either don’t care about what’s going on, or they don’t understand it,” Kaepernick told the Chronicle. “I find it very hard that people don’t understand what’s going on.”

Jim Harbaugh: ‘I don’t respect’ action of Colin Kaepernick’s protest

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football coach Jim Harbaugh didn’t mince words when asked Monday about the recent protest made by his former quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.

“I acknowledge his right to do that. I don’t respect the motivation or the action,” said Harbaugh, who coached Kaepernick with the San Francisco 49ers.

Harbaugh looked to clarify his comments in a tweet later Monday.

Kaepernick remained seated while the national anthem played prior to the 49ers’ preseason game Friday against the Green Bay Packers. After the game, he told reporters he sat because he didn’t want to show pride in a country that oppresses people of color.

“To me, this is bigger than football, and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way,” Kaepernick told reporters. “There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

“We talk about the national anthem each and every year prior to our first preseason game and how we conduct ourselves during the national anthem,” McCarthy said. “But I think when you do get to a situation where there are social issues, I think everybody – players and coaches alike – feel there is a responsibility to stand up for that. With that, that’s where the communication between you and your football team takes place, and you respect each and every man for where they came from and who they are.

“With that, it’s more about not what they stand up for but really when. And I think those are the types of things that you work through.”

After Saturday’s game he let a little of that show. Asked if he thought he would be named starter, Siemian said: “I feel confident. Ultimately it’s up to [Kubiak], it’s a better question for him.’’

Asked if he believed he had done enough to be the starter, Siemian said: “I do, but again that’s not my call. I’ll just try to be the best teammate I can be.’’

Turns out the kid was right.

On what was a day off for many of his teammates, Berry bumped into Alex Smith and some of the other quarterbacks, and they greeted each other warmly. He sat in the office of the head coach and talked with Andy Reid about what they would try to accomplish this season.

It was time for Berry, the Chiefs’ franchise player, to get back to work after skipping all of the offseason practice sessions and training camp in protest. So he did. Berry signed the Chiefs’ one-year contract worth about $10.8 million and put aside thoughts of anything but football.

“Everybody in this building knows me,’’ Berry said Monday, shortly before practicing for the first time. “I’m about business. I’m going to handle business like a professional. Aside from that, I’m going to give you everything I’ve got on every snap. Whatever happened in the offseason, that’s the offseason.

“That’s in my DNA. I can’t change that.’’

Berry will be available to help the Chiefs through that process from this point forward. That was always part of his plan. Football and the Chiefs mean too much to Berry for him to miss games and practices when they really count.
